Objectivos, Competências e Resultados de aprendizagem

Brief description of the curricular unit
This course is aimed at learners of German as a foreign language without prior knowledge of this language. It is intended that students reach a level of knowledge corresponding to level A1.2/A2 (elementary user) of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) in all skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing).
By working with different types of texts that contain a diverse range of exercises and tasks, which in turn aim to develop skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) and the lexicon in a systematic and progressive way, students consolidate and deepen their knowledge and linguistic skills in accordance with the requirements of the CEFR for this level of study of the German language - indispensable tools for mastering various communicative situations that occur in everyday life. In addition, students are confronted with the culture/reality of German-speaking countries through viewing/listening to audiovisual materials. Grammatical knowledge is acquired through a deeper study of textual phenomena in their context (syntax, verb conjugation, verbs with separable particle, verb tenses, pronouns, negation), which also contributes to broadening the range of comprehension strategies .

Aims and learning outcomes
Perception skills: students should acquire the ability to understand familiar words and simple sentences referring to themselves and concrete aspects of the surrounding world.

Interaction and oral and written production skills: students must acquire the basic linguistic means in order to interact with each other, being able, whenever necessary, to request the repetition of utterances that they cannot understand. They should also train different types of questions and simple answers, within the scope of the themes given in class.

Skills to be developed
At the end of the semester, students should be able to engage in different communicative situations, orally and written, producing different types of texts. Mainly, they shall be encourage to gain further autonomy on speaking and understanding oral messages and conversations, according to specific contexts and chosen debating topics. Students will be asked to resort to various learning strategies, in order to develop their speaking and writing skills through the use of adequate vocabulary, grammar rules and syntactic structures. 

Programa

Classes will focus on different subject-matters, directly related to current life and daily routines, such as "food and drinks", "dialogues at the restaurant", all embracing the main learning skills: listening, reading, writing, speaking.

Several grammatical aspects will be the object of reflection, analysis and practical exercises:
1. Dative
2. Conjugation of the past tense perfect (Perfekt) and the imperfect (Präteritum) verbs
3. separable / non-separable prefix verbs
4. Subject inversion
5. Denial
6. Akk and Dativ Personal Pronouns
7. Imperative Phrases
8. Main, coordinated and subordinate clauses

In each of the syllabus topics will be worked on the skills of speaking, writing and reading. At the end of the semester students should be able to: broaden their declarative knowledge (knowing) and achievement competence (knowing-doing); understand and use the lexicon and structures related to the topics covered both orally and in writing; master the terminology and competent use of the grammatical structures provided for this level.

Métodos de Ensino

We will promote the resot to different learning strategies and methods, such as group-work, presentations, oral interaction, homework assignments, reading aloud, written tests and work-projects.

- 2 written tests (35% each)

Under the terms of the General Regulation:

1. The students' attendance in classes will be recorded and, if the number of absences per student exceeds 30% of the total number of lessons scheduled for each course unit, the student will be automatically transferred to the final evaluation (regular season).
2. In the written tests and other assessment elements mentioned, it is necessary to obtain a minimum grade of 7.5 (seven point five) points.
3. If the student misses a test or receives a grade lower than 7.5 points in the tests or in another assessment element mentioned in the previous number, the student will be automatically transferred to the final evaluation (regular season).
4. If the student misses or obtains less than 7.5 in the second written test, held in the same date of the final exam in the regular season, they may apply for further evaluation in the Appeal season.
5. All academic papers (reports, case studies...) included in the continuous assessment will have to be submitted in the Turnitin data basis, availible on the Isag e-learning platform; a 30% similarity of written texts may be acceptable.

Under the terms of the General Regulation:
The practical or theoretical-practical work (s) referred may also be considered, with a weighting corresponding to half of that considered in the context of continuous assessment, provided that the student communicates such intention to the teacher through the completion of a specific form to be made available by the teacher at the individual written test day.

Demonstração da Coerência das Metodologias de Ensino com os Objetivos de Aprendizagem da Unidade Curricular

Classes will be theoretical-practical, with varied didactic strategies, such as group or individual work; Above all, great importance will be given to the active participation of students, through small thematic research, training in reading aloud, carrying out written assignments and presentations in "powerpoint". The ultimate goal will be to acquire new skills and learning strategies/study skills, as well as to develop an interest in different realities and cultures; the practical result will be configured around the broadening of competences in terms of the use of multimedia resources.
