SCIENTIFIC, CULTURAL AND PEDAGOGICAL PROJECT

VISION

It is intended that ISAG be identified as a private higher education institution of high level, dedicated to the creation, transmission and dissemination of culture and knowledge of a professional nature, duly recognized as one of the most prestigious, qualified and innovative in the country and in the European context, and with a strong relationship of trust with the school community, business and other organizations.

VALUES

ISAG fulfils its institutional mission with reference to the following set of core values:

1. Respect for the individual: respect for the dignity and expectations of each student and staff member, helping them to share in the success of ISAG to which they have contributed, and acknowledging individual achievements and promoting their sense of pride. All persons in the ISAG community are recognised as having the following rights: the right to be useful, to participate, to understand, to be responsible, to appeal, to make commitments and to a relationship of respect;

2. Service to the school community: ISAG's primary responsibility is to students, teachers, staff and all who use its services. The aim will be to provide the best possible teaching/learning service, the role of the financial results obtained being, in particular, to finance the development of the educational establishment and to provide the resources necessary to achieve its objectives;

3. Proximity to students and teachers: Effective teaching/learning requires a climate of attention, and the educational establishment should be seen as offering its students a sense of belonging, of being recognised and respected, and the teacher should be esteemed and valued. Being attentive will thus be a social objective to be respected;

4. The importance given to details in the execution will be a conviction in the process of providing excellent quality services to students;

5. Valuing creativity and innovation, individual and institutional;

6. Valuing behaviours and attitudes that are based on the values of responsibility, a sense of service, solidarity, mutual respect, teamwork, flexibility and ethicality.


SCIENTIFIC, CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL PRINCIPLES

1. In pursuing its objectives, ISAG shall respect the following principles of a scientific nature:

a) Principle of strategic orientation, aiming at the satisfaction of real needs in vocational education and training, seeking to adopt a global dynamic open and guided by strategic management and aiming at the best possible satisfaction of its students;

b) Principle of qualitative excellence, in the organization of all courses and activities;

c) The principle of sequential articulation, with a view to enabling a progression and increasing valuation of graduates, through appropriate courses and geared to continuous training;

d) The principle of curricular dynamics, aiming at the updating and adaptation, whenever necessary, of study plans, to social, economic and business changes;

e) The principle of continuous training, which translates into the innovative offer of training solutions for graduates and other interested parties, on their own initiative, or in support of initiatives from other entities or institutions, or even as satisfaction of requests for tailor-made training;

f) The principle of an international perspective, with emphasis on the European area, enabling a framework of studies and reference extended and adapted to the dynamics of the Bologna Process, the phenomenon of internationalisation and economic and market globalisation.

2. In carrying out teaching and learning processes, the ISAG shall also observe the following guidelines:

a) not become involved in education and training without first having the appropriate technical-scientific and pedagogical conditions, and aim to contribute to meeting an economically viable social need;

b) to have, in all posts, the collaboration of highly competent and creative people, who should improve their competence and potential through ongoing training, to which ISAG will contribute as much as possible;

c) encourage cultural training and the development of an innovative spirit, scientific curiosity, reflexive thinking and critical analysis throughout the school community, with a view to carrying out professional activities successfully in a highly competitive economic and business context;

d) To seek to encourage research work and applied scientific research, aiming at the involvement and development of students;

e) To promote the dissemination of scientific, cultural and technical knowledge, through teaching, publications or other forms of communication;

f) To provide training that develops the ability to make decisions, to work as part of a team, to perform tasks autonomously, allowing a competent and technically demanding professional exercise;

g) To instill in graduates a high sense of modernity, creative action, and to encourage a permanent effort of research and continuous updating in the exercise of their professional activities; 

h) Balance in the constitution of a teaching staff, seeking that, together with academic career teachers, there should be other teachers who (also) distinguish themselves by being specialists of recognized experience and professional competence;

i) articulation of ISAG teaching, as far as possible, with university and polytechnic teaching provided in other teaching establishments, public and private, national and international, through mutual recognition of the value of the training and skills acquired, and equivalence based on the analysis of the respective study plans;

j) To use modern information and communication technologies, as well as modern pedagogical tools to be in line with the evolution of the information society;

3. Their courses and other initiatives should have as main concern to contribute to the development, in each student, of the following skills, behaviors and attitudes:

a) Have an entrepreneurial spirit, intuition, collective awareness and respect for the value of solidarity;

b) To know how to deal with the unknown, to have a spirit of initiative, to make decisions and to use existing resources rationally to solve new problems;

c) Know how to work individually and as a member of a team, with different training and experience;

d) Be able to predict, organise and carry out its work autonomously and to control it by itself;

e) Be able to perform project work involving design, planning and problem solving;

f) have a good understanding of the technology and the opportunities it can provide.


SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION 

1. Without prejudice to individual free enterprise, the ISAG shall give preference to the development of applied research activities through a Research Group involving ISAG faculty and researchers, in close liaison with the economic fabric, with a view to implementing specific permanent or temporary programmes and projects of a specific or interdisciplinary nature, as set out in a regulation to be approved by the Scientific Technical Council, and preferably in partnership with other duly accredited and assessed entities in their respective research areas.

2. Whenever appropriate, the Research Unit may involve researchers from other institutions or different higher education and research institutions.
