Aims, Skills and Learning Outcomes

DESCRIPTIVE SUMMARY OF CURRICULAR UNIT
The cultural industries and the arts are essential to fully understand the elements which define the referential map of Portugal¿s identity. This curricular unit aims at establishing the social and cultural profile of our society, from the seventies until today, without forgetting some of the main events that shaped our historical and cultural identity, Some of the most significant moments of our country's history, since the foundation of the nationality until the "Estado Novo" period.will also be mentioned.

OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Understand the social and cultural environment of the country;
- Analyse the artistic and cultural production, mainly in the areas of music, literature, and cinema.
- Study some of most significant moments of the countrys recent history, such as the social and cultural dimension of television, the evolution of consumption patterns, the impact of the European union and the boost generated by the new Technologies.

SKILLS TO BE DEVELOPED
- Identify the dominant elements of Portuguese society social and cultural profile;
- Characterize the relevant artistic production;
- Develop the analysis, autonomy and decision making processes;
- Understand the role of culture and art within the context of the definition and consolidation of our national identity.

Learning Methods

The working sessions will follow a theoretical / practical approach, aiming at combining the teacher's presentation with the systematic use of practical examples and real cases. Debates and discussions will also take place, and the cultural elements referred in the classes will be connected with real situations and contexts.

Continuous Assessment

Two written tests: 2x35%
Group work: 30% ( 20% written part+10% oral presentation)

1. all students will register their presence during lessons and, if their absenteeism rate is over 30% of the total number of lessons for each course unit, they will automatically be transferred to the final assessment modality of the regular season.

2. In written tests and evaluation elements referred to in sub-paragraphs b) to e) of paragraph 2 of Art. 39, a minimum score of 7.5 (seven point five) values is required.

3. In case students miss or obtain less than 7.5 in the written tests or the written projects, they will be automatically transferred to Final Assessmen of the regular seasont

4. In case students miss or obtain less than 7.5 in the second written test, they may only be subject to the appeal season for tests.

Final Exam

Under the terms of the Degree Regulation:

The practical or theoretical-practical work (s) referred to in Article 39 (2) (b) may also be considered, with a weighting corresponding to half of that considered in the context of continuous assessment, provided that the student communicates such intention to the teacher through the completion of a specific form to be made available by the teacher at the time of the exam.
