Aims, Skills and Learning Outcomes


SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CURRICULAR UNIT
This curricular unit aims at studying the essential concepts of verbal / non-verbal communication, as well as the analysis of literary / non-literary texts. The corporate communication process will be mentioned, namely within the context of the communication strategies connected with negotiation and conflict management.

OBJECTIVES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Promote contact with the interpersonal communication functions;
- Develop the levels of verbal / non-verbal communication skills;
- Approach the communication strategies to face conflict or stressful situations;
- Identify corporate communication processes;
- Know the adequate methods and resources in order to present projecs in corporate environments.

SKILLS TO DEVELOP
The students should develop their skills as far as the interpersonal communication level is concerned, considering the several types of communication processes and speech models. It would also be important to assure the transfer from the theoretical contents to the real corporate environments. Finally, by the end of the semester the students should master the skills connected with corporate presentations, namely the correspondent methodologies and technical resources.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives


- Promote contact with the interpersonal communication functions;
This goal will be reached through the contents and practical cases provided in Sub Chapters 1.1 and 1.2

- Develop the levels of verbal / non-verbal communication skills;
In this case Sub Chapter 1.3 will be the source of contents more adequate to reach this specific goal

- Approach the communication strategies to face conflict or stressful situations;
Regarding this goal, the main points will be the contents related to Sub Chapters 2.3 to 2.4 and the practical cases provided during the sessions

- Identify corporate communication processes;
This goal will be reached through the analysis of practical cases included in sub chapters 3.1 to 3.7

- Know the adequate methods and resources in order to present projects in corporate environments.
This goal will be reached after working the contents related to Chapter 4 of the programme.

Learning Methods

The working sessions will follow a theoretical / practical approach, thus combining the teacher s presentations with the corporate environment. The concepts and theoretical models presented will always be connected with real business situations.

Group work presentation: 30%
a) Plan, structure and content: (5%) - document: submission through the e-learning platform (Turnitin Data base)
b) Final version (25%) - document: submission through the e-learning platform (Turnitin Data base)

The groups should prepare and present a Project related to a specific topic. They should use the Power Point platform to present their projects.
According to the Assessment Rules:

a) All students will register their presence during lessons and, if their absenteeism rate is over 30% of the total number of lessons for each course unit, they will automatically be transferred to the final assessment modality of the regular season.
b) In written tests and evaluation elements referred to in sub-paragraphs b) to e) of paragraph 2 of Art. 32, a minimum score of 7.5 (seven point five) values is required.
c) In case students miss or obtain less than 7.5 in the written tests or the written projects, they will be automatically transferred to Final Assessmen of the regular seasont
d) In case students miss or obtain less than 7.5 in the second written test, they may only be subject to the Appeal season for tests.
e) All the written assessments included in the evaluation (reports, case studies, etc.) must be submitted through the Turnitin data base, available at the eLearning Platform. It would be accepted a similarity rate of less than 30%.

This goal will be reached through debates generated by the contents and backup texts

- Develop the levels of verbal / non-verbal communication skills;
In this specific case the goal will be reached through the commented reading of real examples
- Approach the communication strategies to face conflict or stressful situations;
In this specific case the goal will be reached through the guided approach of real communication examples
- Identify corporate communication processes;
In this specific case the goal will be reached through the commented reading of practical cases, followed by debates
- Know the adequate methods and resources in order to present projects in corporate environments.
This goal will be reached through the tutorial guidance conceived to support the development of the group projects.
