Aims, Skills and Learning Outcomes

Summary description of the curricular unit
This curricular unit aims at providing the background elements related to the management of intercultural communication environments.

Objectives and expected learning outcomes
1. Identify the characteristics of intercultural communication management and the aspects related to the various cultural backgrounds, namely values, beliefs and behaviour patterns;
2. Know the contextual modal of intercultural communication and the ethical issues connected with this activity, considering the different typologies of business environments;
3. Define a relevant set of solutions in order to analyse and solve intercultural conflicts, namely within the scope of cultural differences;
4. Characterize a set of core skills with the purpose of carrying out intercultural communication strategies;

Skills to be developed
After the conclusion of this curricular unit, the students will be able to:
- Develop their skills regarding written and oral expressions, as well as identifying and analysing the processes related to intercultural communication;
- Master the research techniques, gathering methodologies and information treatment, thus assuring the transposition of the theoretical knowledge included in the sessions to the operational reality of the companies;
- Know and understand the most relevant intercultural patterns inside the companies, as well as their respective models and protocols.

- Identify the characteristics of intercultural communication and the aspects related to the various cultural backgrounds, namely values, beliefs and behaviour patterns;
This goal will be reached through subchapters 1.1 to 1.3;
- Know the contextual modal of intercultural communication and the ethical issues connected with this activity, considering the different typologies of business environments;

Learning Methods

The working sessions will follow a theoretical / practical approach, aiming at combining the presentations of teacher with the current and more significant contexts related to intercultural communication management. For this effect, the practical applicability of the predominant communication management concepts will be linked to a real-life intercultural scenario.

Continuous Assessment

2 Written tests: 30% + 30%
Group work - Intercultural Communication Project: 40% (submission e-learning platform).

Under the terms of the Bachelor Degree:

1. The students' attendance in classes will be recorded and, if the number of absences per student exceeds 30% of the total number of lessons scheduled for each course unit, the student will be automatically transferred to the final evaluation (regular season).
2. In the written tests and other assessment elements it is necessary to obtain a minimum grade of 7.5 (seven point five) points.
3. If the student misses a test or receives a grade lower than 7.5 points in the tests or in another assessment element mentioned in the previous number, the student will be automatically transferred to the final evaluation (regular season).
4. If the student misses or obtains less than 7.5 in the second written test, held in the same date of the final exam in the regular season, they may apply for further evaluation in the Appeal season.
5) All written academic work provided for in the assessment (reports, case studies, etc.) must be submitted to the Turnitin database, available on the ISAG E-Learning platform, with a similarity rate up to 30% acceptable.

- Identify the characteristics of intercultural communication management and the aspects related to the various cultural backgrounds, namely values, beliefs and behaviour patterns;

- Know the contextual modal of intercultural communication and the ethical issues connected with this activity, considering the different typologies of business environments;
This goal will be reached through the operationalization of simulates business environments
- Define a relevant set of solutions in order to analyse and solve intercultural conflicts, namely within the scope of cultural differences;
This goal will be reached through the organization of debates over practical situations
- Characterize a set of core skills with the purpose of carrying out intercultural communication strategies;
This goal implies the elaboration and presentation of an intercultural communication project based on real and updated data.
