Aims, Skills and Learning Outcomes

Descriptive summary of the curricular unit
The curricular unit aims to learn the basic concepts related to commercial law, namely company law, with particular emphasis on legal matters related to management. In this sense, particular focus is given to the essential characteristics of commercial contracts and their legal regimes. Particular emphasis is also placed on legal issues related to foreign investment and its regime.

Learning objectives and expected outcomes
GA1: Consolidation of the specific language related to legal sciences
GA2: Understanding of the basic concepts connected with the commercial world (mainly societies), thus allowing the autonomous study of legal matters related to business management
GA3: Know the main commercial contracts
GA4: Knowledge of the legal framework related to foreign investment in Portugal

The contents of the curricular unit may be divided in three groups:
Dissolution and liquidation of companies: where the students will know the regime
Commercial contracts: where the students will identify the main commercial contracts and their modus operandi
Foreign investment: understand the foreign investment regime in Portugal

Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

Being an introductory curricular unit and aiming at providing the students with the basic legislation of the sector in which they will be professionally integrated, acquiring basic law concepts and knowing the most important regimes), the expository method is therefore the most relevant one, properly complemented by the resolutions of cases that simulate the real application of the regulations under study.
