Aims, Skills and Learning Outcomes

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE CURRICULAR UNIT 
With the intention of making organizations effective, the world of work has opted for a long time to develop, predominantly, a set of employee's technical skills. In fact, for a long time, this approach has proved insufficient: interpersonal skills are highly determinants of organizational effectiveness.Through this curricular unit is intended that students develop competencies in the field of attitudes and behaviors that improve their performance at work. The behaviors to be used by a developer access to a new organization, a communicative ability as well as the way in which we can face the conflict management, will be the subject of a careful approach. Taking into account the problems related to individual performance and organizational productivity will also be given emphasis on time management, the ability to work in a team, reinforcing the need to overcome adversities introducing adaptive capabilities to different work contexts.

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

a) Understand the importance of the human element as essential to the internal functioning of organizations.
b) Understand the main attitudes and behaviors of enhancers an effective integration into the labor market.
c) Understand the importance of the role of good communication skills and conflict management in professional relationships.
d) Understand the benefits of a good time management.
e) Provide the development of a spirit of collaboration and mutual aid to achieve common results.
f) Provide the development of resilient behaviors.

Programme

1. What are "soft skills"? Importance of this approach in the professional performance.

2. The role of the centrality of communication in the life of organizations. The main dimensions of the communicational process. The functions of communication. Barriers to communication.

3. Concepts and categories of conflict. The different strategies of conflict management. The different advantages and disadvantages of conflict.
4. Advantages and disadvantages of time management tools. The concept of procrastination. 

5. Nature and types of groups in organizations. Advantages and disadvantages of teamwork.

6. The concept of resilience. Bases and determinants of resilience.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

The focus on the development of interpersonal skills that are addressed issues related to motivation, communication processes, conflict management and team work. The time management tools, the concept of procrastination and the ability to overcome obstacles by promoting the ability to handle challenging situations, skills development enhancers content that this unit the curriculum proposes to promote.

Learning Methods

It is intended to encourage students to participate actively in class and in the process (volunteer) of continuous evaluation, developing their critical capacity and their skills for a personal study effectively.
Will be given active methods, in particular, the use of case studies, group work and role-playing.
With the aim to enhance learning, audiovisual methods can also be used.

Continuous Assessment

Individual written test: 2 (40% +40%)

Practical work (submitted through the e-learning platform): 1 (20%)

Under the terms of the Bachelor's Regulation:

1. The students' attendance in classes will be recorded and, if the number of absences per student exceeds 30% of the total number of lessons scheduled for each course unit, the student will be automatically transferred to the final evaluation (regular season).

2. In the written tests and other assessment elements mentioned in paragraph 2 of Art. 39 it is necessary to obtain a minimum grade of 7.5 (seven point five) points.

3. If the student misses a test or receives a grade lower than 7.5 points in the tests or in another assessment element mentioned in the previous number, the student will be automatically transferred to the final evaluation (regular season).

4. If the student misses or obtains less than 7.5 in the second written test, held in the same date of the final exam in the regular season, they may apply for further evaluation in the Appeal season.

Final Exam

An individual written test: one (100%)

Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

This curricular Unit aims to promote the development of interpersonal skills, and the use of case studies, role-playing and group work are the more adjusted to the development of these skills.
