Aims, Skills and Learning Outcomes

DESCRIPTIVE SUMMARY OF CURRICULAR UNIT
The course unit of Expression and Communication II aims to integrate and relate the essential concepts of language with the various formats and styles of business communication. Thematic focus will focus on the relationship between the expressiveness of language and the corresponding articulation with the evocative power of the images, aiming at the elaboration of corporate communication campaigns. It is also intended to identify and analyze the multiple formats of internal and external communication in companies, with a particular focus on the increasing impact of new technologies.

OBJECTIVES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Promote contact with the new paradigms of communication;
- Develop levels of verbal/non-verbal expression;
- Reflect on the expressive potential of the interconnection between text and image;
- Identify the internal communication flows in companies;
- Provide the appropriate working tools (theoretical and operational) for the elaboration of communication campaigns.

SKILLS TO DEVELOP
Students should develop their skills in the writing and orality. It will also be important to master research techniques, working methodologies for collecting and processing information and ensure the implementation of theoretical knowledge covered in the sessions for the operational reality of the companies. Finally, it is expected that students know and understand the communication standards in business as well as the respective models and protocols.

Learning Methods

The working sessions will follow a theoretical / practical approach, thus combining the teacher¿s presentations with the corporate environment. The concepts and theoretical models presented will always be connected with real business situations.

Continuous Assessment

1 - Continuous Evaluation

- Written Test I: 35%
- Written Test II: 35%
- Group Work (Brief and respective Communication Action): 20%
- Work presentation in class: 10%

1. The actual presence of the students in the classes will be registered and, if the number of absences per student exceeds 30% of the total number of contact sessions provided for each course unit, it will automatically be transferred to the final evaluation of the normal time.
2. In the written tests and in the evaluation elements referred to in points b) to e) of paragraph 2 of Article 39 it is necessary to obtain a minimum grade of 7.5 (seven point five) values.
3. If the student is absent or has a grade lower than 7.5 points in the tests or evaluation elements referred to in the preceding paragraph, he will be automatically transferred to the final evaluation of the normal season.
4. If the student fails to obtain a grade of less than 7.5 points in the second written test (held on the same date as the final written test of the normal time), he / she may apply for evaluation at the time of appeal.

- Exam (Written Test): 100%

The practical projects can also be considered, with half of the percentage defined for the continuous assessment, as long as the teacher is informed about this decision by the student.

Proofs and special works

Brief and Communication Action (free choice or suggested by the teacher): the contents to be presented will be conceptual, technical and strategic, not implying mastery of computer tools (in terms of image, sound and video).
