Objectivos, Competências e Resultados de aprendizagem

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF THE CURRICULAR UNIT
The subject being a first-level foreign language (German) is aimed at students with no mandatory previous knowledge of the same. We aim at the good practice of the language at all learning domain, such as listening, speaking (engaging in oral interaction), reading and writing.

OBJECTIVES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
Dealing with different types of cultural situations, resorting to role-plays, music, videos, written texts, students will be encouraged to develop their communicative skills and writing techniques by using adequate vocabulary and grammar structures.

SKILLS TO BE DEVELOPED
At the end of the semester, students should be able to engage in different communicative situations, orally and written, producing different types of texts. Mainly, they shall be encourage to gain further autonomy on speaking and understanding oral messages and conversations, according to specific contexts and chosen debating topics. Students will be asked to resort to various learning strategies, in order to develop their speaking and writing skills through the use of adequate vocabulary, grammar rules and syntactic structures.

Programa

Various everyday communicative situations and vocabulary from the corresponding semantic areas:
1. The city: to know and describe a foreign city;
2. Daily life: perceiving and telling the time;
3. Meals: talk about the food; planning purchases; hold a conversation while shopping and / or eating
4. Restaurant orders and payments;
5. Express likes and dislikes;
6. Professions / Work;
7. Housing: describe a home;
8.Vacations: describe problems at the hotel; complain in a hotel; talk about travel destinations.
Various grammatical aspects will be the object of reflection, analysis and practical exercises:

1. Syntactic cases: revisions of the Nominative and Accusative
2. The Dativo; prepositions and verbs that ask for accusative and dative
3. The imperative
4. statements
5. The Perfekt

The different subject-matters should enable students to engage in different communicative situations, orally and written. The different subject-matters will be intensified with the resort to different learning strategies and methods, such as group-work, presentations, oral interaction, research assignments, reading aloud, and work-projects. In other words, students will be asked to resort to various learning strategies, in order to develop their speaking and writing skills through the use of adequate vocabulary, grammar rules and syntactic structures.
Under Degree Regulations:

1. The effective presence of students in the classes will be registered and, if the number of absences per student exceeds 30% of the total number of contact sessions provided for each course unit, he/she will be automatically transferred to the final evaluation of the normal season.

2. In the written tests and in the defined evaluation elements it is necessary to obtain the minimum grade of 7,5 values.

3. If the student is absent or has a grade lower than 7,5 values in the tests or evaluation elements referred to in the previous number, he/she will be automatically transferred to the final evaluation of the normal season.

4. If the student is absent or has a grade lower than 7,5 values in the second written test (held on the same date as the final written test of the normal season), he/she may apply for evaluation at the appeal season.
