ERASMUS POLICY

Since its foundation ISAG has developed strategies to consolidate its position and expansion by contacting European educational establishments in the same areas of study.
ISAG is part of a wide range of bilateral and multilateral agreements on staff and student mobility and research collaboration. These agreements constitute an important part of the University¿s student and staff exchange activities.
Bilateral agreements are established taking in account the Institution profile and students and staff needs, as well as cooperation opportunities coming through staff mobility or research projects. In addition, the evaluation of quality is permanently being considered by the participant statements, by the quality of teaching and placement partner institutions, thinking on the career perspectives. Taking in account the practical component associated to the market, we have as a priority in searching partners related to enterprises, aiming to improve student performance. ISAG aims to optimize the already existing partnerships, establish and diversify new bilateral agreements.

When reviewing existing agreements or considering new international partnerships, priority is given to agreements of strategic importance and a satisfactory level of activity. Partners are chosen at three levels: University-wide partnerships, partnerships that are anchored in the main academic area and departmental or degree-specific partnerships. Decision-making structures reflect the level of the partnership. The university focuses on establishing and further developing its collaboration with elite universities within its geographical focus areas and uses its academic strength to proactively identify international partners that match the university strengths.

Both for individual departments and for the university as a whole, the goal is to establish and further develop strategic alliances with strong academic environments abroad. Central to this effort will be the opportunities for increasing mobility among students and researchers.

The most important objectives of our mobility activities include:

To contribute to the training and individual development of our students
To contribute to the training and individual development of our staff
To promote academic excellence through academic and research collaboration
To encourage our staff¿s learning and exchanging of best practices through a mobility experience so that they can cascade their new learning to peers, and contribute to the improvement of practices at home
To raise the profile of our university internationally and as a means to learn new ways to improve.

Strategy for the organization and implementation of international (EU and non-EU) cooperation projects in teaching and training in relation to projects implemented under the Erasmus+ Programme

We wish to attract the best-qualified students from abroad. The intake of international students contributes to a dynamic learning environment and constitutes an important source of recruitment of talented researchers. To attract and retain international students we have developed a professional arrival and support system consisting of service packages with clear standards that cover all types of international students.
ISAG focuses on research and core disciplines of the highest quality. The goal is to provide internationalised teaching and research programmes that contribute to the high concentration and mobility of talent at all levels.
As an integrated part of the university¿s internationalisation strategy, participation in international cooperation projects in teaching and learning will contribute to strengthening the universitys international profile. Participation in activities in the Programme will strongly facilitate this. We encourage and support our academics to engage in international cooperation projects, strategic alliances and joint degree programes.

Expected impact of ISAG¿s participation in the Erasmus+ Programme on the modernization of the institution in terms of the policy objectives we intend to achieve

We believe that our participation in the Erasmus+ Programme can contribute to the agenda for the modernization of Higher Education in Europe by continuing to attract non-traditional learners (adult learners, working students, students with family responsibilities, and students with non-formal qualifications), giving them opportunities to study and helping them to have an international experience whether at home (ISAG) or abroad. This is in line with priority 1 of the Modernization Agenda for Europe. We will continue to make full use of existing recognition tools (ECTS, Diploma Supplement) so that our students do not feel that a mobility will be an obstacle, rather a valuable and enriching experience (priority 3 of the Modernisation Agenda for Europe ).
We will continue to improve the quality and relevance of higher education through cooperation with enterprises by continuing to invite representatives from the labour market to teach, participate in seminars and workshops and by promoting traineeships for our students in professional organizations (priorities 2 and 4 of the Modernization Agenda for Europe). Just like we do internally, we plan to organize international traineeships to encourage closer international cooperation between our students and companies and help match companies needs and students¿ projects (priority 4 of the Modernization Agenda for Europe). We intend
to build on our prior successful experience to develop/participate in international degrees that will help boost mobility and advance Europe (priority 3 of the Modernization Agenda for Europe).
Our institution has been participating in the programme since 2015. The numbers of outgoing and incoming students have grown steadily since then.

The participation in the Erasmus+ Program, has an importante role in our internationalization strategy and in our strategic plan for 2017-2020. We aim as an institution to offer a better education to our students, assist our staff to develop personally and professionally, and help Portugal and Europe attain the goals set in the Agenda for the Modernization of Europe.
